I grew up in Northumberland in the North East of England, where the big views and empty beaches had me dreaming of lands and cultures across the sea.
I followed that curiosity and went off to study French and German, discovering a love of linguistics and Scandinavian languages along the way.

Researching how languages change over time led to a 10-year academic career, and gave me a deep appreciation for how language connects people across space and time.
