Throughout my research, I have engaged with and contributed towards various state-of-the-art methodologies for investigating syntactic change.
Visual analytics
I was previously a guest researcher at the Univeristy of Konstanz, contributing my expertise on syntactic change to a project examining the potential of visual analytics for linguistics.
Together we explored how visualisation methodologies can make the workflow of the workflow of the historical linguist more efficient and yield deeper insights of the data.
Data-driven periodisation
During my stay at Konstanz, I also worked with Christin Beck (née Schätzle) to develop a new data-driven approach to language history periodisation.
DiaHClust is based on iterative hierarchical clustering and offers a multi-layered perspective on change from text-level to broader time periods, avoiding the common problems which come from using a pre-determined periodisation.
